Q. Do I need a visa before entering into China?

A.

Yes, according to the laws and regulations on entry and exit of the People’s Republic of China, foreigners wishing to travel to China should apply to a local Chinese embassy, a consulate, or an organization authorized by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Q. Can I use foreign currency in China?

A.

No, foreign currencies are not permitted to be circulated in the territory of the People’s Republic of China; nor could they be used to make payments. Foreigners in China should use Renminbi when paying bills. The Bank of China and other designated banks offer exchange services for foreign traveler’s checks, credit cards, and 21 kinds of foreign currencies. Foreign currency exchange service is also available at airports, hotels, restaurants, and shops.

Q. Can I use credit cards and traveler’s cheques in China?

A.

Acceptable foreign credit cards include Master, Visa, American Express, Diners Club, and JCB. Cardholders can draw cashes at the Bank of China or directly use the cards for consumption at department stores, hotels, and restaurants.

To add convenience to travelers, the Bank of China can cash checks sold by the international commercial banks or traveler’s check companies in America, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Great Britain, France, Switzerland, and Germany. It also sells as an agent the traveler’s checks of such banks as American Express, Citibank, Swissbank, and Sunitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation.

Q. What’s the power supply in China?

A.

The voltage offered by hotels is mostly 220V. Most star-rated hotels are equipped with transformation electrical outlets for blower and electric shaver.

Q. Is running water drinkable in China?

A.

Drinkable running water is only available at upscale hotels. Therefore, travelers should remember to ask hotel managers whether the running water is drinkable. All of the hotel guestrooms offer boiled water. Bottled mineral water is commonplace in China.

Q. Is the air transportation safe in China?

A.

Chinese civil aviation provides warm, safe, and quality service for tourist. The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), a functional department for trade administration of China’s civil aviation and transportation services, takes charge of all of the 970 domestic regular flights. With Beijing as the center, an air transport network involves 44 local air routes and radiates to 130 cities around the country. One hundred and sixty-one international air routes link China with 67 cities of 32 countries. All of the CAAC’s aircraft have reached the world advanced level, and the major airports are modernly equipped. The airports are modernly equipped. The Air China International Corporation is one of the safest air companies in the world.

Q. What’s the free baggage allowances for inter China flights?

A.

Chinese airlines offer free baggage allowances as follows: 40 kg for first-class passengers, 30 kg for business-class passengers and 20 kg for economy-class passengers.
